Food Safety Tips: Post Power Outage
Be sure to check these food safety tips prior to eating anything in the refrigerator.

For those folks still without power because of Hurricane Sandy, it may be time to empty out the fridge and freezer.
According to www.foodsafety.gov, the overall rule is to discard refrigerated items if the electricity has been out for more than four hours. That doesn't leave much time for using up those groceries.
"Discard any perishable food (such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and leftovers) that have been above 40 °F for over 2 hours," the website states.
