Snow Update: Photos, Cancellations

Update, 5 p.m. Friday

State troopers across the area, including the ones patrolling Interstate 84 (I-84), were busy as the snow fell. Officials released the following statement Friday afternoon.

During the winter storm, State Police Stormville members investigated 13 property damage auto accidents and assisted over 30 disabled motorist on the Taconic State Parkway from I-84 down to Rte 6. State Police East Fishkill also investigated 13 property damage auto accidents and numerous disabled vehicles on I-84 from the Newburgh Beacon Bridge to the Connecticut state line. 

Update, 4:45 p.m. Friday

The Studio Around the Corner on Main Street in Brewster will be closed this evening. The exhibit by Joan Gillman Smith is still on for noon to 2 p.m. tomorrow, and again from 7 to 9 p.m. March 15.

The show must go on! The musical at Brewster High School is still on for tonight, despite a cancellation for yesterday's opening show. Learn more about the show here.

Update, 11:50 a.m. Friday

Due to the recent storm I made the decision to postpone our monthly meeting until next Friday at 8 p.m.  The last thing I want is for someone to fall and get hurt or have an accident coming to a meeting.  If anyone can thing of any member that may not get this message please past along the information.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Update, 9:50 a.m. Friday

Both the Southeast town offices and the Village of Brewster offices are open today.

"Please take care when traveling during inclement weather and allow for additional travel time. Customers should use caution when entering and exiting trains, and on platforms and staircases.

Update, 8:15 a.m. Friday

With the exception of employees who work in essential departments, all Putnam County buildings and facilities will be closed today, as per County Executive MaryEllen Odell's decision.

"All employees are encouraged to stay home and enjoy the long weekend," officials said in a statement released Friday morning. 

Residents are encouraged to use NY-Alert, the emergency communication system provided by the state, for updates on local road conditions.

Daytime accumulations are slated to reach one to three inches, likely before 4 p.m.

The Brewster Central School District is closed today, as are Carmel and Mahopac schools.

Update, 11 p.m. Thursday

The flakes should be finished by 4 p.m. Friday, but not before another one to three inches are on the ground, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance of some snow and rain throughout the rest of the day, and temperatures will likely hit a high of 38 degrees. 

Cloudy skies Friday night, and a low of about 24 degrees, will give way to a Sunday Saturday and temperatures in the low 40s, the agency reports.

[Updated story, 12:50 p.m. Thursday] Brewster and Southeast will likely see a fresh blanket of snow when Friday morning arrives.

Reports from the National Weather Service call for two to four inches to fall Thursday night, with temperatures slated to hit a low of 30 degrees. The snow could continue into Friday, leaving another inch or two on the ground before 12 p.m.

Rain may follow, and temperatures should stay in the high 30s.

No snow is expected Friday night, and Saturday should be sunny with temperatures in the mid to high-40s.

No cancellations or delays are listed on the Brewster Central School District at this time.

[Updated story, 4:15 p.m. Wednesday] Several events slated for have been canceled or postponed:

• The Italian bistro dinner scheduled for Thursday night at Henry H. Wells Middle School has been pushed back to March 14.
• The winter sports awards scheduled for Wednesday night at Brewster High School will be held March 13 instead.
• The 5 p.m. after-school bus will not run Wednesday.

[Original story, 5:45 a.m. Wednesday] The New York area is expected to feel the effects of a Nor'Easter that has already hit parts of the Midwest.

By Friday, new snow accumulation in Brewster could amount to a few inches, according to reports from the National Weather Service.

The agency says snow is "likely" after 12 p.m. Wednesday, with less than half an inch falling during the day, and one to two inches hitting over night. More may fall before noon Thursday and that night, as well as Friday morning.

High temperatures will probably range from 35 to 40 degrees during the day—with cloudy skies, as well as "blustery" and "breezy" conditions—and nighttime lows will be in the high 20s and low 30s, the NWS forecasts.

No advisories had been issued for the Brewster area as of 11 p.m. Tuesday.
