Levy: Putnam Sheriff's Allegations Are 'Unfounded'
Putnam's top prosecutor will continue to assist in the investigation 'any way' he can.

In the latest of the back-and-forth exchanges between District Attorney Adam Levy and Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith, the former says he plans to continue concentrating on his work.
The conflict arose after news broke that a young girl was reportedly raped, and that the accused has a personal connection to Levy. The defendant, Alexandru Ionut Hossu, was arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office last week.
Here is what Levy said in a statement released Monday evening:

As I have stated from the outset, upon hearing the news that Alexander Hossu, who my family had known for years, was charged and arrested, I immediately turned over the case to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office. I have also said that I advised the Westchester DA's office that my family and I remain available to assist in their investigation in any way we can.
Despite Sheriff Smith's unfounded allegations and misstatements, the facts will show my office acted property in every aspect of the investigation. Now, I need to continue to concentrate my efforts on the work that I was elected to do by the people of Putnam County as its district attorney.
