Pregnant Woman In Critical Condition After Being Trapped Under Car

Police and members of the Mahopac Fire Department found a 2010 Malibu in the middle of the road Friday with its owner underneath.

MAHOPAC, NY — A pregnant woman who was trapped under her own car Friday is in critical condition at Westchester Medical Center, Carmel police said.

At 5:49 p.m. Nov. 10, Carmel police were dispatched to Fenwood Road. Police and members of the Mahopac Fire Department found a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu in the middle of the roadway — and its owner trapped underneath.

The vehicle appeared to have rolled down the driveway of 41 Fenwood Road, knocking down and trapping Sheila Ritchie, police said.

Mahopac Fire personnel were able to quickly extricate the 43-year-old from underneath the vehicle while also performing emergency medical care, police said. She was then transported to Westchester Medical center via medivac helicopter.

She is currently listed in critical condition at Westchester Medical Center, police said Monday.

Police said from their preliminary investigation, it appears that some type of mechanical issue caused the vehicle after being parked to roll down the driveway, striking the victim.

Carmel Police Detectives are continuing their investigation into the accident and any potential witnesses are asked to contact The Town of Carmel Police Detective Division.
