Southeast: Get That Hazardous Waste Out Of Your House

Toss the unwanted stuff that's in the basement and under the sink, and help preserve the quality of drinking water in Putnam County.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — In May, 334 residents from across Putnam County registered and hauled a wide range of hazardous items they needed to throw out to a parking lot at Fahnestock State Park.

The second go-round for 2023 will take place Oct. 14, so you have a second chance to get rid of those old spray cans of insecticide, containers of weedkiller, old antifreeze, fertilizers, adhesives/solvents, paints and stains, pool chemicals, drain and oven cleaners.

Get rid of the old fluorescent light tubes, the old spray cans of oven cleaner and spot remover.

How about disposing safely of old flea collars? Did you know that one? Nail polish remover? Hair spray?

The point is you can get rid of unwanted stuff that's in the basement or garage and under the sink, and help preserve the quality of drinking water in Putnam County.
