Southeast to Talk Spending for Sewer Improvements

Officials with the Town of Southeast are set to appoint an emergency preparedness officer, hear an update from a Putnam County legislator and pass a resolution in support of a grant for a special water district at Thursday night's meeting.

That's according to the agenda, which lists a work session and a regular session, with a start time of 7 p.m.

But before either of those can begin, two public hearings will be held. The first looks at increasing the amount of money to be spent on improvements to the Peach Lake Sewer District.

The second focuses on an addition to the sign law. It was revised and adopted in late January after a series of meetings with frustrated business owners who were concerned about the potential impact of the changes. This evening's conversation will deal with temporary signs.

After both hearings, local leaders will discuss a range of topics, including reaching out to elected officials in support of a grant to help offset spending in the Springhouse Estates water district. Residents there, who have dealt with tainted water for years, will soon have a new system in place. They are expecting to see major cost increases.
