Greenburgh Renames Street 'Honorary André Leon Talley Way': VIDEO
Talley, who died Jan. 18, was the first African American creative director of Vogue.

GREENBURGH, NY — A portion of a Greenburgh street on which a trailblazing Black fashion editor lived was renamed in a ceremony Sept. 21.
Friends, neighbors, town officials and global fashion personalities gathered on Worthington Street in the town of Greenburgh as it was renamed "Honorary André Leon Talley Way."
Talley, who died Jan. 18, was the first African American creative director of Vogue and then the first African American editor at large. He made history as a rare Black editor in an industry that is overwhelmingly white.

Diane von Furstenberg, the fashion designer, said in Women's Wear Daily, said she helped Talley, who was in danger of being evicted, stay in his Greenburgh home and that it was a victory that the street was being renamed for him after his death.
"The idea that now [the street will be named for him] fills my heart," she told the publication.
