Gallery North is pleased to present Curious Phenomena: Recent Works by Melinda Hackett, on view from January 8 to February 15, 2026. An opening reception will be held Thursday, January 8th from 6 pm to 8 pm.Curious Phenomena presents small- and large-scale paintings by Melinda Hackett. Playful clusters of biomorphic shapes dance, tumble, float and perform amid vibrant environments that condense macro and micro worlds. While Hackett uses nature as a reference, each piece is a poetic invention of the artist’s imagination. The colorful stages on which these mysterious - yet familiar - forms are placed create visual flavors that influence the viewers’ mood and feelings, transforming the overall experience. Each piece engages our curiosity and invites us to contemplate our own perspective, even while we explore the relationships between each form. Hackett’s practice has been influenced by botany, mid-century modern pattern design, as well as the artwork of Arthur Dove, Joan Miró, and Hilma af Klint.
Melinda Hackett is a New York and Southampton based painter and printmaker. She received her MFA from the Parsons School of Design, The New School. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and is in many public and private collections including the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton. She divides her time between the East End and Manhattan.
This exhibition is generously sponsored by the Field Family, Jefferson’s Ferry, Pet ER 24/7, Printers 3 and Suffolk County’s Department of Economic Development and Planning. The exhibition, reception, and ArTalk will be free and open to the public.

(mostly) TRUE THINGS is a game wrapped in a storytelling show, in which a line-up of performers tell a true, personal story from their own life. The theme for this show's stories is NEW START. All the stories are true, but some include subtle details that are not entirely true. The audience gets to question the storytellers. The whole truth comes out in the end. The Atelier at Flowerfield

The Atelier is excited to present our limited Artist Closet Clean-Out Exhibition, featuring artworks by the Atelier's students and instructors. Our artists are encouraged to clean out their closets, clear their easels and hang a few pieces to display in this limited exhibition. 
Deadline for submission is Tuesday, January 6h. All artwork should be priced under $500 and sized 18x24 or smaller. There is no fee for submissions.
