Photo of the Day: Martial Arts Community Kicks for Charity

Students, teachers, and friends at Crino's Martial Arts raise money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

How many kicks does it take ... to raise more than $2,000 for charity? About 18,000, that's how many. Students, friends and instructors at Crino's Martial Arts in Stony Brook came together to raise $2,328 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at its annual Kick-a-Thon in March. Participants launched all kinds of kicks – front kicks, side kicks, round house kicks, flying side kicks and relay race kicks – and a good time was had by all. "Our students and their friends demonstrated one of the most deep-seated beliefs of the martial arts: Doing what you can to help others," owner Sil Crino said in an email to Patch.
