Three Village Schools Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

The Three Village Central School District celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. At P.J. Gelinas and R.C. Murphy junior high schools, as well as at Ward Melville High School, students participated in activities that honored the culture and contributions of many Hispanic Americans.

Classes at the junior high schools collaborated to create posters. Students were given puzzle pieces to put together and create a poster with an inspirational quote in Spanish. Additionally, students researched an accomplished person of Hispanic heritage and created a pennant with information about the person including their achievements, a quote and lessons learned.

At Ward Melville High School, AP students produced bilingual podcasts on many different aspects of Hispanic culture including music, food, celebrations and literature. Other courses created posters which were then used in a scavenger hunt. Students even had the opportunity to learn about Latin American music during an interactive after-school Zumba class.
