Fuschillo, CCMAC to Offer Free Skin Cancer Screening in Wantagh

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr., R-Merrick, will be partnering with the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign (CCMAC) in sponsoring a free skin cancer screening program to help protect residents from skin cancer.

The free skin cancer screening program will be held on Thursday, Aug. 23 from 12 to 3:30 p.m. at the Wantagh Park Pool, located at 1 King Road in Wantagh. Screenings will be conducted by trained dermatologists. CCMAC will be working with Dr. Steve McClain, Dr. Erin Schoor and doctors from Stony Brook Hospital Dermatology Department to provide the free screenings.

The program is open to everyone, regardless of their age. Residents can show up anytime during the program; no appointments are required.

According to CCMAC, one in five people will be diagnosed with some type of skin cancer in their lifetime. Malignant melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, is the fastest growing cancer in America, claiming one life every hour. People of all ethnic backgrounds and races can get skin cancer. One blistering sunburn during childhood or adolescence more than doubles melanoma risk later in life.
