New Wantagh Smashburger Opening Friday
Fast-casual burger chain scheduled to open in Wantagh Woods Plaza.

Wantagh and Seaford residents will have another local burger option at the end of this week.
A new Smashburger on 1223 Wantagh Ave. that has been under construction since the spring has a sign this week announcing a Friday opening. Smashburger officials could not be reached for comment on any grand opening events planned for the location in the Wantagh Woods Plaza where a Dollar Store used to sit.

Irwin Kruger, franchisee for Smashburger’s Long Island locations, said in June that the Wantagh opening, originally slated for August, was among about a half a dozen the Denver-based fast-casual burger chain was targeting to open in Nassau County this year. The new Wantagh Smashburger measures 3,200 square-feet and includes a private party area in the rear of the store.
In addition to hamburgers, Smashburger also offers chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, salads and shakes. The Smashburger name derives from the process they use to cook burgers, which are smashed onto the grill using a metal plate.
