Wantagh, Seaford Homecoming Celebrations Set for Saturday

Parades and football games on tap in both communities this Saturday.

Wantagh and Seaford high schools will both be holding their annual homecoming celebrations this Saturday.

The Seaford High School Homecoming Parade is scheduled to commence at 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot next to the Seaford Public Library on 2234 Jackson Ave. The theme for this year's homecoming festivities is “Score One for Seaford” and the Grand Marshals are members of the Save Seaford Sports Committee in honor of their tireless fundraising efforts to restore middle school sports cut from the budget during the past year. There will be a car in the parade with Save Seaford Sports members Annmarie Lynch, Maureen Perez and Andrea Poole.

The Seaford football team (5-0) will try and remain perfect on the season against Cold Spring Harbor starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. At halftime, there will be a performance by the Seaford High School Marching band and cheerleaders.

The Wantagh High School Homecoming Parade is set to step off at noon at the corners of Bunker Avenue and Wantagh Avenue. This year's float theme is "On Broadway" and will feature four floats depicting Broadway shows. John Theissen, founder of the Wantagh-based John Theissen Children's Foundation is this year's Grand Marshal with beloved Wantagh Middle School custodian Melvin Turner serving as a guest marcher.

Following the parade, the Wantagh football team will face New Hyde Park starting at 1:30 p.m. Wantagh is off to a 5-1 start and is vying for the top seed in the upcoming Nassau County Conference II playoffs.

At halftime, the Wantagh High School Marching Band and dance team will perform the songs "Moves Like Jagger", "Come Out and Play" and "Dynamite" in a field show written and choreographed by Dan Aviles. The band's directors include Mindy Dragovich and Danilo Aviles with Tatiana Cruz and Brendan Foley serving as senior drum majors and Nicolle DiIorio, Alyssa Weldon and Brittany Motis as color guard captains. The dance team captains are Coral Sales and Tara Thompson with Joan Mirabella the squad's head coach.
