2 Officers Injured While Protecting Funeral Procession

Sgt. Stephan Fortrell and Police Officer Kenny Smith were thrown from their motorcycles and sustained non-life threatening injuries

Two White Plains traffic motorcycle officers were injured after being thrown from their motorcycles while protecting a funeral procession, police said.

"This was just an unfortunate case of an accident occurring trying to prevent an accident," said White Plains Public Safety Commissioner.

According to police, Sgt. Stephan Fortrell and Police Officer Kenny Smith were trying to block an automobile from possibly colliding with the procession of 40 cars when they collided Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. in front of 120 Bloomingdale Rd .

Fortrell and Smith sustained various non-life threatening injuries and were rushed to Westchester Medical Center.
