Alzheimer’s Association Holds Food Drive to Benefit Food Bank for Westchester

The organization is asking the community to donate nonperishable foods to the Food Bank for Westchester.

Alzheimer’s caregivers are 28 percent more likely than other people to eat less or go hungry, according to a recent report* by the Alzheimer’s Association.

In light of this disturbing figure, the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter is working to help boost the food supply at the Food Bank for Westchester** during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month in June. Donors are asked to bring food to the Alzheimer’s Association’s office at 2900 Westchester Ave., Suite 306, in Purchase.

The most needed items include beans (canned or dry), cereals (whole grain), canned meat or fish, canned meals (low-sodium), canned or dried fruit, milk, pasta and rice. Donors should look for labels that say: No sodium, no salt added, no sugar added, unsweetened, reduced sodium, 100 percent fruit juice or lite. Contact the Purchase office at 914.253.6860 with any questions about the food drive.

"We feel it is very important to help and support the Food Bank for Westchester,” said Jennifer Scheuermann, interim CEO for the Hudson Valley chapter, “They are an outstanding and needed resource for the Westchester community."
