Letter: Outages Could Kill Small Businesses

By: Iris Schreier of Artyarns

Power is out to all the businesses located on Westmoreland Avenue in White Plains. Con Ed has notified us that they can not prioritize restoration of power to businesses.

They do not consider businesses any more important than individual residences when it comes to power restoration. They have indicated that we may be out for power for over 7-10 days.

This will be disastrous to our city and our economy. We are small businesses that cannot meet payroll or continue to employ workers if we can not operate due to the blackout. We will likely go bankrupt and close if power is not restored in time for us to manufacture our products for the holiday season.

There is a big difference between a power outage at a business that effects dozens of families adversely who may lose there jobs, and a power outage at a residence.

Unfortunately, it seems like since this commercial area is not given any priority, our businesses could likely collapse.
