Youth Bureau Offering Development Programs

This fall, the White Plains Youth Bureau will offer two programs specifically for teenagers and young adults geared toward skill and character development.

For older teens and young adults today’s work place is competitive. Whether young people are new to an office environment or have prior experience; this training course will prepare them for success. Young adults will learn the fundamentals of phone and office etiquette, customer service, and professionalism in additionto a host of other clerical skills.

The course is being offered free of charge to White Plains residents 18-24 years of age by the Youth Bureau’s, Youth Employment Office. Classes begin Oct. 29 and will be offered at the youth bureau, 11 Amherst Place. The course will be offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. until Dec. 5, 2012.

For younger teens the teen years can be complicated and tough for kids and for parents. It is a time when social pressures really kick in. This program is geared toward building self-confidence and self-worth in children at the age where these can begin to falter.

The White Plains Youth Bureau is now accepting applications for its Blue Nile Rights of Passage Program. Blue Nile Passage Program is a nationally recognized manhood and womanhood training program dedicated to the spiritual, cultural and moral character development of America’s youth with a focus on youth of African descent.

The curriculum includes public speaking, time management, conflict resolution, mass-media analysis, nutritional guidance, spiritual grounding, African-American history, community consciousness, economic awareness and government. Mentoring is a significant component of the program. The Blue Nile Passage program is open to African American male and female youth ages 12- 15 years of age and will meet on Saturdays.
