BOE Expected to Vote on $48.2 Million Bond

If approved, the proposal will go to a public vote on Oct. 23.

The White Plains Board of Education is expected to approve financing for a $48.2 million capital project tonight that will go to a public vote in October.

The school board has to take place on Oct. 23, but didn't have enough members present at its last meeting for final approval. That vote is expected to take place at tonight's meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the district's .

The capital plan is focused on repairs to the Eastview Middle School building, where the district currently plans to spend $22.6 million for a "major renovation".

Improvements are also proposed for district's high school, including $1.95 million for wireless technology and $1.6 million for improvements to the school's auditorium and little theatre. (A school-by-school breakdown of the spending is available .)

If approved, the capital spending plan would raise the district's tax levy by .72 percent, which would increase the tax payment for an average White Plains home by $65.12 annually, according to district estimates.

Other Agenda Items

  • The board will vote on probationary appointments for four positions within the district. The positions are a food service helper, senior clerk at the high school, a senior part-time clerk district wide, and a school business administrator/treasurer at the education house.
  • The board will vote on a new concussion policy.
