Video: Brief Blaze on Westmoreland Avenue
A fire at Westy Self Storage facility, on Westmoreland Avenue in White Plains, was extinguished within ten minutes Wednesday.
White Plains firefighters put out a fire at the new Westy Self Storage facility, next door to 197 Westlmoreland Ave., within ten minutes Wednesday.
The minor blaze did not damage the building—which is slated to open in November. The fire, which is still under investigation, started on the fourth floor and is believed to have been started after sparks made contact with building materials during construction.
Workers were discarding curing mats that began to smolder, and caught fire before 12:30 p.m. About 12 firefighters quickly quelled the fire, leaving the scene by 1 p.m., as construction continued.
