BRP Night Work to Begin, Gets Makeover

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway between the New York City line and the Sprain Brook Parkway will be subject to alternating lane closures evenings and overnight beginning Monday, Nov. 7 and continuing until Wednesday, Nov. 9. The work will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.

These closures are necessary for work crews to install pavement markings. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during these hours to avoid delays.

The stone work beneath the Hamilton Avenue bridge over the Bronx River Pathway in White Plains has been restored to its natural luster, thanks to a $3,000 donation by the Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy to help remove graffiti.            

 “We are so fortunate to have such a great volunteer organization like the Conservancy here in Westchester, helping to keep this area beautiful for all who use the trail throughout the year,” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino. “I applaud their community spirit and thank them for their generosity.”

The work was accomplished by Tri-State Soda Blasting, using a high-powered water spray with a mix of baking soda and finely ground glass to remove the graffiti. On the more tenacious spots, a spray of much larger ground glass particles was used.

County Parks Commissioner Kathleen O’Connor said, “Since its inception, the Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy has provided support and assistance in helping to help maintain and preserve this jewel in the heart of Westchester. We thank them and look forward to their continuing partnership.”

The Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy is a member-based, non-profit organization that  was founded in 1997 and is dedicated to supporting the County of Westchester in its stewardship of the Bronx River Parkway Reservation.
