City Limits Diner Re-Opens With New Look

After closing for renovations earlier this year, City Limits Diner on Central Ave. in White Plains is open for business.

People missed this summer while the restaurant closed for renovations.

A mainstay at 200 Central Ave. in White Plains for almost two decades, the diner has built up a loyal group of regulars over the years, said assistant general manager Nick Livanos.

"People love our food," Livanos said. "Any time I went out anywhere and ran across people that I know that come here, all I heard was, 'When are you re-opening?’”

Those customers got their answer on Aug. 8, when City Limits re-opened after closing for almost four months. The hiatus gave ownership the chance to make several major upgrades, including a new entryway layout, new floors and significant upgrades in the kitchen.

"They spared no expense if we needed something," Livanos said.

The bar has been switched to the opposite side of the restaurant's entrance, providing a different type of atmosphere for people either waiting for a table or who are looking for a place to sit for a game.

"It creates a much different atmosphere in the restaurant," Livanos said while showing off the new bar. "You can sit here and feel like you are part of the restaurant."

The restaurant on Central Ave. has been in the Livanos family since it was called Livanos Restaurant in the 80s. The owners—Nick Livanos' cousin who is also named Nick Livanos and Bill Livanos—changed the restaurant to City Limits in 1994, and not much had been changed since then.

After 18 years, it was time for an upgrade. Although change is never easy, Livanos said customers appear to be enjoying the new look and atmosphere at City Limits.

"A lot of people were not happy to hear we were changing it," he explained, "but they're coming in and they're seeing it and a lot of people are happy with the new look."

Livanos said they were careful to keep the menu the same. The same chef is working with the same menu; the only change is the debut of a new pizza oven.

That is sure to be good news for the diner's regulars, who Livanos said have been pleased to have their old favorite dish back in a new environment.

"People come back and that's what they're looking for," Livanos said. "Especially now, they're coming back for all of the favorites that they missed."
