‘Exceptional Work Under Extreme Circumstances’: White Plains Police, Firefighters Honored

From quashing dangerous break-ins and robberies to coaxing a suicidal man off a downtown parking garage, White Plains police officers, EMTs, firefighters and others were honored Tuesday night during the Department of Public Safety’s award ceremony.

“It’s truly a great day,” said Thomas Roach, the city’s mayor. “Public Safety officers are our first ambassadors to the city.”

Citing an increasingly on-edge city on the heels of tragedies in Boston, Newtown and Aurora, CO, Commissioner of Public Safety David E. Chong said the 60 or so emergency personnel were being recognized for “exceptional work under extreme circumstances.”
