White Plains firefighters extinguished a fire at 66 Soundview Ave., which is believed to have started in a car parked in the garage and spread to the first floor around 10:26 a.m. Thursday.
When firefighthers arrived on the scene, they found fire shooting out windows in the garage and first floor of the ranch-style home. A primary and secondary search was done to confirm that there was no one in the home at the time. About 18 firefighters helped put out the blaze with 15 minutes to a half hour.

Four hose lines were used to put out the blaze. Firefighters had to pull the ceiling down from the inside of the home to make sure the fire didn’t spread further.

LoHud.com is reporting that Rose Lovitch—a member of the White Plains Board of Education— and neighbor to the homeowner, Alice Mascolo said that Mascolo, who is believed to live alone in the home, told her that she just parked her car inside the garage, and then noticed it was smoking and sparking.
Lyman said the cause of the fire is under investigation and that the building department has shut down gas and electrical service to 66 Soundview Ave.
