The device did not contain gunpowder or firing mechanism, and posted no threat, according to a spokesperson for the Westchester County Department of Public Safety

The Westchester County Hazardous Devices Unit was called to Brockway Place in White Plains around 9 a.m. Friday on reports of a possible hand grenade at the municipal waste transfer station.

Though the bomb squad did find a grenade, it was only a shell without gunpowder or a firing mechanism and posed no treat, according to Westchester County Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Kieran O'Leary.

The department is conducting and investigation to determine where the grenade came from.
