With temperatures peaking in the 90s, officials offer tips for beating the heat.

The Westchester County Health Department is issuing a heat advisory this week because temperatures are expected to reach the mid-to-high 90s Fahrenheit.

White Plains should see temperatures rise to 97 degrees (Farenheit) Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

"As the temperature rises, residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity, drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids, and take precautions against suffering heat-related illness," the Health Department website reads.

Remember: heat stroke can be fatal! If you believe someone may be suffering from heat stroke, call 911 immediately. Move the person to a cooler place. Quickly cool the person, by wrapping wet sheets around him or her. If you have ice packs or cold packs, wrap them in a cloth and place them on each of the victim's wrists and ankles, in the armpits and on the neck to cool the large blood vessels, the county advises.

The County has declared The Galleria, 100 Main St.; The Westchester, 125 Westchester Ave.; the White Plains Senior Center, 65 Mitchell Pl; as cooling centers.

So, if you need to keep out of the heat, head on over to one of those locations—the City's pools won't open until June 18.
