Lowey Irked as Gun Control Bill Flops in Senate
Legislation met its end Wednesday; local assemblywoman dubs it 'failure.'

On the heels of federal bipartisan gun legislation faltering in the Senate, one local politico is irate.
The bill—which would have bolstered background checks for Internet and gun show firearm sales—failed to nab Senate approval last Wednesday.
The Senate was six votes short of adopting the Manchin-Toomey bill, which was born shortly after the Newtown, CT tragedy.

It's a decision assemblywoman Nita Lowey (D-Westchester/Rockland) says defies common sense.
"How many more children have to die before we act?" she said. "How many more tragedies have to unfold in our communities before we say 'enough is enough'? What will it take for this shameful obstructionism and delay to end?"

"Strengthening background checks and making sure criminals can’t buy deadly weapons—steps that are supported by nine out of ten Americans—are commonsense, basic protections that can help prevent gun violence," she added.
Lowey vows to "keep fighting to bring up legislation to strengthen background checks [and] close loopholes," she said.
