Lost at sea, Vittorio Assaf and Fabio Franato made a pack to start a pizza and pasta restaurant if they ever survived the ordeal. Now the duo own more than 10 Serafina restaurants in the U.S. and Brazil.

The Northern Italian cuisine restaurant’s family recipes were handed down throughout the generations and were adapted by Assaf and Serafina chefs.

Serafina White Plains serves about 20 varieties of thin crust pizza (which can be made with a whole wheat crust)—as well as pasta dishes, appetizers, salads, seafood dishes, vegetarian and meat platters, and dessert.

Serafina also offers a kids menu, catering, private event space and outdoor seating in the spring.

The restaurants appetizers make for a fine lunch including: minestrone soup for $6.50; a plate of brushetta for $6.90; a basket of focaccia all erbe for $6; calamari for $9.50; or i crostini di Sofia, wood burning oven toasted bread with mozzarella and prosciutto.

If you’re looking for something lighter choose the fresh garden salad for $7.50 or the Di Sofia (Serafina’s version of Caesar salad) for $9.50. A heaping dish of penne al pomodoro (Italian peeled tomato sauce with basil leaves) is $9.75, while a marinara pizza (with tomato, oregano and garlic) is $9.75.

All side dishes—from French fries, creamy spinach (organic baby spinach with a touch of butter and cream) or ratatouille—are $6.90.
