Mid-Week Neighborhood Dish: Bike Safety, Hotel Planned, Chair Yoga

Plans for a new hotel, a salute to seniors, bike safety and more this week in White Plains.

1.) A Hotel for Metropolitan Plaza

Developers for —a project at 250-270 Main St.  that was approved in January and would add a second level to the existing storefronts and connected walkway to the City Center—have submitted plans for Phase II of the project.

According to The Journal News, the second phase includes a 130-room hotel, with a lobby, bar, pool, fitness, meeting rooms and underground parking garage.

Salute to Seniors

Westchester’s senior citizens will enjoy over 85 booths offering information on social service agencies, hospitals, health, wellness and finance—as well as entertainment by Rappin’ Grannies and a demonstration by Silver Sneakers. The 43rd annual Salute to Seniors will be held at the Wed. May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Chair Yoga

Now you can achieve balance without having to get out of your chair. At 9 a.m. on Fri. May 6 at you can learn chair yoga—a gentle form of the exercise perfect for those was have physical limitations, but want to increase joint flexibility and sense of well-being, reduce stress and pain. Admission and parking are free for Be Fit members.

Annual Mother and Son Dance

The White Plains Youth Bureau will hold the third annual Mother-Son Dance Fri. May 6 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at . The event includes dancing, dinner, prizes and more for $15 per couple.

Is there another lady who is special in your life? Boys are welcome to bring  grandma, an aunt or another caring woman in their life. 

5.) Bicycle Safety Day

A Bicycle Safety Rally will be held atfrom 10 a.m. until noon on Sat. May 7. This free event includes bike inspections, helmet fittings, the bicycle safety rodeo, giveaways, music and refreshments.

Little children can also learn to ride their bikes (you must bring a bike to participate). White Plains police officers will also offer car seat inspections from. Call 914.422.1336 for more information and for helmet registration.
