White Plains will hold a public information session on June 6 at 7 p.m. at the White Plains Performing Arts Center (third floor of 11 City Pl.), to share their landfill closure plan for the former Gedney Way landfill.  The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation must approve that plan before it is implemented. The New York School for the Deaf presented " All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten," on June 4. The production is based on a collection of short stories from Robert Fulghum's award winning novels. Check out our photo gallery of the event.

3.) Senior Citizen Poolside Party and Barbecue

Westchester residents who are 60-year-old and up are invited to the County’s pool party/barbecue on June 22 (rain date June 23), from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains. Grandchildren are welcome. The event will include lots of entertainment, including mini golf, musical performances and a water aerobics class.

4.) Take the White Plains Police Officer Exam

White Plains will hold the police officer’s examination on Sat. Nov. 19; the last day to file to take the test is Thurs. July 14 at 5 p.m. Salary ranges from $55,152 to $86,372. Click here for all of the details.

5.) Business Council of Westchester Chairman Passes Away

Charlie Brown, Chairman of The Business Council of Westchester based in White Plains, passed away Monday morning.

The Armonk resident was elected chairman last year, after serving on the executive committee of the council, a consortium of local Westchester businesses. Brown was also owner of C.W. Brown Inc., an engineering firm with offices in Armonk, New York City and Connecticut.

Listed below is an announcement from The Business Council of Westchester:

Charles W. Brown, Jr., founder and owner of C.W. Brown, Inc. passed away on Monday at his home in South Salem, NY. Charlie, along with his wife, Renée, founded C.W. Brown, Inc., a General Contracting firm located in Armonk, NY.

He has been the President of the company since its inception in 1984. Focusing more recently on business development, Charlie has become an established figure within the Westchester County business community.

Along with being Chairman of the Board of The Business Council of Westchester, he is an active member of the Board of Economic Development for the County of Westchester, the Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA), the Board of Trustees at St. Luke's School, the Business Development Board at Mahopac National Bank and the Construction Management Advisory Committee at Utica College. 

For the past eighteen years, he has served as a Village Trustee/Deputy Mayor of the Village of West Hampton Dunes. He is survived by his wife, Renée and daughters Amy, Kimberly and Molly.

He is also survived by his sisters, Joy Goldberg of Syosset, NY and Alda Brown of Fort Worth, TX, as well as three nieces and one nephew: Lorraine Garcia, Charles Goldberg, Suzanne Prudente and Adrienne Goldberg. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Joyce Robichaud and his sister-in-law, Monique Devine, and his niece and nephew, Tyler and Samantha Devine.

He was a leader, mentor and friend to many with a passion and dedication to a full life and all those around him. He played an influential role in the lives of a close network of family and friends who will miss him dearly. 

The family will receive friends at the Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville, NY on Thursday, June 9 from 2pm - 8pm. A Memorial Celebration of his Life will be held on Friday, June 10 at 11am at the office of C.W. Brown Inc. at 1 Labriola Court, Armonk, NY.

His most recent and proudest accomplishment was gaining LEED Platinum Certification of this site, which serves as an emblem of the future Green Westchester County. 
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in honor of Charlie Brown be made to Westchester Community College Foundation.

Charlie was a proud Westchester Community College Graduate and Foundation Board member. He was passionate about the wonderful mentorship programs offered by WCC, and it is the family's hope that through donations his enthusiasm for mentoring youth can be carried on.
