Neighborhood Know-It-All: Flags at Half-Staff for Solider, City Pools Extend Hours, Free Family Golf Clinic

1.) State Flags to at Half-Staff for Solider

State government buildings will fly their flags at half-staff today to honor Marine Lance Corporal Jabari N. Thompson, of Brooklyn who died on July 17. Thompson died during a combat operation in Afghanistan.

2.) Dads and Kids Learn Golf for Free

The White Plains Youth Bureau Fatherhood Initiative, and the Beta Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, is hosting a free golf clinic for dads and their children on Monday, July 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Field.

3.) Stay a While Longer at Your City Pool

City pools at Gardella and Kittrell parks stay open until 8 p.m. now until Sunday, July 24 due to the heat advisory. Pools open at noon, and admission is free to all city residents. You must present a recreation idea card. Call 914.422.1336 for more information.

Students in grades six through 12 can enjoy a variety of games—like chess, foosball, basket ball and more—Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the . Staff from the county’s parks department will supervise kids. Click for more information.

5.) American Bar Honors Pace Law Professor

The American Bar Association Law Practice Management Section (LPM) honored Pace Law School Professor Gary A. Munneke, with the Samuel S. Smith Award for excellence in law practice management. 

The award is presented annually to those who have made outstanding contributions to the law practice management field. Professor Munneke will be honored at a reception during the ABA/LPM Annual Meeting, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Friday, August 5, 2011.
