1.) More Public Discussion on Open Space Recreation District

The White Plains Common Council—minus Councilwoman Beth Smayda and Councilman John Martin, who were not present at the meeting—voted to extend opportunities for the public to comment on the City’s Open Space Recreation District and proposed zoning amendments.

2.) Former City Police Officer Dies

Funeral services for retired White Plains Police Officer William J. De Lanoy “Bing”, were held yesterday at Saint John the Evangelist Church, in White Plains.

The 53-year-old Hopewell Junction resident, who was born in White Plains, passed away on July 10. According to a website in his honor, he is survived by his wife Marlene, and his two children Joann and Erica; as well as his two sisters Carol Ann Kane of Mass., Mary Joan De Lanoy of Penn., and brothers Thomas De Lanoy of White Plains and Michael De Lanoy of Brewster.

He was an avid fan of movies, the New York Giants, Yankees and Notre Dame, the website says. Click here for more information.

3.) More City Layoffs; Public Safety Hires, but Loses Health Care Arbitration

The City of White Plains has made four more layoffs, that now total 12—The Journal News reports. Though the police union lost an arbitration ruling to paying increased health care costs, the City hired four police officers, and two firefighters—The Journal News said.

4.) White Plains Hospital Gets Gold Award

White Plains Hospital won the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award, which recognizes commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients.

5.) Nominate Someone You’re Proud of with the “Lifestyle Change Award”

The Westchester County Region American Heart Association is taking nominations for its "Lifestyle Change Award," which honors individuals who have made positive changes to improve their health and quality of life. Deadline for applications is Sept 15th. Click on the PDF for more information.
