Neighborhood Know-It-All: Zombie Apocalypse, Youth Crime, Weingarten Praises WP Schools
Prepare for a zombie apocalypse; city teens arrested, Berkley student mugged; learn to fend off telemarketers and more.
While The Huffington Post has come up with 21 reasons why the world isn’t going to end tomorrow, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is erring on the side of caution by offering guidelines on how to survive a zombie apocalypse.
To survive a zombie take-over you need an emergency kit with: water; food; medications; duct tape; battery powered radio; utility knife; sanitation items; clothing and bedding; important documents and a first-aid kit. Then put together an emergency plan for your family.

According to the CDC, if a zombie infestation did spread—it would be ready to conduct an investigation of the disease outbreak and offer information on how to prevent the spread of zombies. Read their guide here.

The New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) featured American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten and her visit to two White Plains schools. Weingarten praised White Plains schools on her “Making a Difference Every Day,” tour. Click here to learn more about her visit.
3.) Youth and Crime
The Journal News reported that three city teens were arrested for a string of car break-ins, read more in their story. They also reported that a 20-year-old looking man robbed a Berkley College student while walking from class on Church Street, toward Rockledge Avenue around 9 p.m., read the full story here.

5.) Avon Strengthen Local Women, Minus the Makeup
The Avon Foundation for Woman gave 18 ladies from the Samaritan House Women’s Shelter a sense of empowerment at the “Women of Strength Day,” held at Grace Church on May 14. The women engaged in team building and trust activities run by New York City Outward Bound.
