Lifelong White Plains resident Annie McGovern and her husband Brian Peroni opened White Plains’ newest neighborhood family hangout, Sweet Anniez Ice Cream and Candy Shop, on June 15.

McGovern, who graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in 1977, and Peroni decided to set up shop in the former spot of Mr. C’s Deli—which is about two blocks from their home—to sell ice cream, sundaes, an array of candy, smoothies, shakes, frozen S’mores, lemonade, ice coffee, cappuccinos, lattes and much more.

Grandma Joan’s Espresso Chunk ice cream flavor—named for McGovern’s mother Joan McGovern, co-found of The Lord’s Pantry— is fast becoming a favorite.

Prior to opening up Sweet Anniez, the couple—who live in the Highlands and have two children, Mickey, 19 and Elizabeth, 24—had worked together in the food industry since they met in 1992.

The modern, but nostalgic ice cream parlor also makes their own ice cream cakes, which can be bought in the store as is or custom ordered, and candy baskets. Their ice cream and candy carts are also available to be rented for corporate events, birthdays, Bat and Bar Mitzvahs and more.
