Cub Scout Pack 5 in White Plains held its spring rally at the Church Street Elementary School last week.
The rally, which is one of several that are held throughout the year, is an opportunity for the scouts to meet up and look back at some of the projects they’ve completed during the year. It is also an opportunity for interested parents and children to get first hand glimpse into the world of scouting.
Patrick Sevcik's, the committee chairman for Pack 5, said there are about 75 members in the pack, which is based out of the Church Street school. Students in grades one through five are welcome to join.

“You come in as a Tiger scout, which is the first grade,” Sevcik said. “ The second grade is Wolf and third grade is the Bears. The fourth and fifth grader are Webelos. There’s Webelos one and Webelos two. The Webelos time is when you begin to transition into the Boy Scouts.”
Sevcik said there are about a half-dozen cub scout packs in White Plains, but Pack 5 is the only one that is based out of an elementary school.

“There used to be one per school, but they’ve all folded,” Sevcik said. “We get a lot of influx from the other public elementary schools and some of the kids from the private elementary schools as well.”
Sevcik said Pack 5 participates in a number of activities and service projects, including park maintenance projects at Saxon Woods Park, den meetings and camping trips.
