POLL: White Plains Salvation Army Seeks Massive Makeover
The project will more than double the current Post Road/Sterling Avenue facility, leaving some residents concerned about parking and traffic.

While residents in the Fisher Hill neighborhood in White Plains mostly support the plans for a massive makeover of in White Plains, some have raised a few concerns about the project, according to LoHud.com.
The organization is looking to expand its current 9,039 square-foot space at the corner of West Post Road and Sterling Avenue—which originated as a synagogue in 1926—to 15,521 square feet to accommodate new classrooms, a kitchen, an apartment, office space, a gym, play areas and parking.
White Plains Planning Commissioner Susan Habel was quoted by LoHud.com saying the project would be a “a big change for the neighborhood...”

LoHud.com reports that the expansion would allow The Salvation Army to continue running a full after-school program, which was reduced from 60 to 20 children after the state deemed the facility as too small.
Fisher Hill Neighborhood Association President Mary Merenda said that while The Salvation Army has always been a good neighbor, she would like to see in-writing changes to the project’s plans for parking and traffic. Her concern is that the 17 proposed spots aren’t enough, and could cause traffic to back up onto Post Road, according to LoHud.com

The White Plains Common Council will vote on The Salvation Army’s application at an upcoming meeting.
