White Plains will celebrate drug-free living for its youth from Oct. 23-29.

It’s once again Red Ribbon Week in White Plains, where the city will promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles for its youth.

The City of White Plains and the White Plains Youth Bureau will join the White Plains School District, Girls Scouts Heart of the Hudson, Boy Scouts of America, White Plains Department of Public Safety, the White Plains Parks & Recreation Deptartment, the Civil Air Patrol, and the POW’R Against Tobacco Coalition in a ceremony at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 at to kick-off the week-long celebration from Oct. 23-29.

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Association’s website, Red Ribbon Week is one of the oldest drug prevention programs in the country, which reaches millions of Americans when it is held annually during the last week of October. Events are held around the country where individuals wear red ribbons, and hold anti-drug events where youth pledge to live healthy drug and alcohol-free lifestyles.
