Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Stuff a Stocking Holiday DIY Project

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Stuff a Stocking Holiday DIY Project
Volunteers are asked to fill up to 50 miniature-size stockings with individually wrapped candy, chocolate, lip balm, tiny toys, stickers, and other trinkets. Stockings can be decorated with glitter glue or be creative in other ways. These stockings will then be distributed to children and teens ages 5-18 to help spread a little cheer this holiday season.

Turkey Burn at Croton Point Park
Come get moving alongside Westchester Parks Foundation to manage the growth of non-native vines and shrubs at Croton Point Park using hand tools and rakes! This is perfect for large groups and volunteers 14+ (or 12+ alongside an adult).

Voluntarios Que Hablen Español (Spanish-Speaking Volunteers)
Family Service Society of Yonkers busca voluntarios que hablen español para colaborar en nuestro programa extracurricular. Los voluntarios brindarán apoyo a padres hispanohablantes y a estudiantes de nivel primaria con dominio limitado del inglés, ayudando con la comunicación y las tareas escolares. Note: Family Service Society of Yonkers is seeking Spanish-speaking volunteers to assist with its after-school program. Only volunteers who speak Spanish fluently and who are ages 60+ should express interest.

Together Our Unity Can Heal (TOUCH) is seeking a social media specialist who can commit to a minimum of three months. This volunteer will create content for TOUCH's social media that features its mission initiatives, including food rescue and distribution, nutrition services, and medical case management. Volunteers must be 18+.

Youth Development Interns
Boys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon is seeking Youth Development Interns to assist with its programs. Roles include supporting both programmatic and administrative tasks, including the after-school, summer, and teen programs. Interns must be 18+.
