Yonkers – September 2025 – Westchester Disabled On the Move (WDOM), a leading advocate for people with disabilities, successfully held its Doorways to Housing event, which offered critical assistance and resources aimed at connecting people with affordable, accessible housing in a region facing a severe supply shortage.

More than 100 people attended the housing fair at Riverfront Library in Yonkers on September 24th. Attendees had the opportunity to connect directly with housing experts and learn more about accessible, affordable housing opportunities tailored to their individual needs. The event offered free resources, guidance, tools, and information, including on-site application assistance.

New York State, and particularly the Lower Hudson Valley, grapples with a deepening affordable housing crisis. The state suffers from one of the highest rates of housing cost burden in the nation, with millions of households paying more than 30% of their income toward housing.

Organizations attending the event included Community Housing Innovations (CHI), The Westchester County Planning Department’s Homeseekers program, as well as local brokers and realtors.

Refreshments were provided by Vibes NYC and Love Kitchen. WDOM thanked the program sponsors: Community Housing Innovations, Vibes NYC, NYC Love Kitchen, and gave a special thank you to the Carvel Foundation.
