White Plains High School senior Jeaney Paez was awarded a $2,000 scholarship from Hope's Door, a local charity aimed at ending domestic violence.

The "Shining Star Scholarship" was presented this week during the 29th annual Womens' Hall of Fame and Scholarship luncheon in Pleasantville. Paez was recognized for leading the White Plains High School chapter of Students Terminating Abusive Relationships (STAR).

"STAR has taught me the skills that will help me make smart and healthy decisions in life and become the successful, young woman that I know I can be," Paez said.

Paez plans to attend Westchester Community College in the fall of this year to study Psychology.

Briana Santiago, a White Plains resident and senior at the Kent School in Kent, CT, was named to the honor roll for the winter term of 2012-2013.

Kent is a co-ed college preparatory school founded in 1906.
