White Plains Detective Honored at State Memorial

White Plains Police Det. Michael Perry, who died last year in the line of duty, was honored at the 2010 NYS Police Officers Remembrance Ceremony.

The White Plains Commissioner of Public Safety and members of the White Plains  Police Department and White Plains Benevolent Association attended the 2010 NYS Police Officers Remembrance Ceremony at the Empire State Plaza Tuesday to honor the memory of fallen .

Perry, 43, died in the performance of duty on June 12, 2010 leaving behind twin boys David and John Perry, as well as his wife Theresa Perry. He was the first officer to be killed on duty in department's last 60 years.

Perry had been pursuing a serial theft suspect at  shopping mall. Shortly after apprehending the suspect and bringing the man to the police station, he began to feel ill.  reported that he collapsed as an ambulance arrived, and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
