White Plains Feels Tremors From VA Earthquake

Ray Price thought he was having some sort of medical problem when items in his office began to shake at 1:55 p.m.
“I thought I was going through a seizure,” said Price, a financial advisor for , a life insurance and financial service firm. “I’m saying, ‘Why is the chair shaking, why am I shaking?’ I’m sitting here on my laptop working, and all of a sudden I’m looking around, and I feel stuff moving.”
Price, a White Plains resident, realized there wasn’t anything wrong with him when the rest of his co-workers on the ninth floor of 360 Hamilton Ave. in White Plains came out of their offices asking if they felt the same vibrations.

It was the earthquake that hit Virginia around 2 p.m. today with a magnitude of 5.8.
Swaying buildings and shakes could be felt up and down the East Coast including North Carolina and Connecticut. Tremors reached as far as Nyack, according to .

White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong said his department recieved an influx of calls after the earthquake hit.
“We’ve done a tour around the city—no reports of any damage, no reports of any injuries," said Chong. "We’ve stopped around the city, and by city hall—everyone is calm. We’re very proud of the way everyone reacted. Some of the large buildings did the right thing for safety reasons and evacuated, but most people are going back in their buildings now.”
