White Plains Hospital Paints the Town Pink in Honor of Breast Cancer

The reveal of a 22-foot high ribbon is just one of the ways that  is marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A series of events, contests, announcements and more will help draw attention to this disease and encourage women to get screened.

At a press conference on Monday, Oct. 3—doctors, nurses, patients, hospital and City of White Plains officials and guests saw for the first time the large pink ribbon that will remain affixed to the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center for the entire month.

Mayor Thomas Roach was among the guest speakers at the press conference and announced the City’s commitment to breast cancer awareness with the painting of a pink line on the streets around the Hospital’s campus.

Additional elements of the press conference include:

• Introduction of a new breast cancer navigation program at the Hospital, whose goal is to assist patients and their families during the phases of treatment.
• Reveal of the winning T-shirt design from the Hospital’s “Think Pink” T-shirt design contest. T-shirts will be sold in the Hospital’s gift shop, on its website and at The Westchester mall on Saturday, Oct. 15, with all proceeds going to Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center. Additional designs from the contest will also be on display.
• Speeches by Hospital representatives, Cancer Center staff and more.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, , a jewelry boutique at The Westchester mall held a special shopping evening with a portion of proceeds going to Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center. Guests enjoyed light canapés and drinks while getting a jump-start on holiday shopping.

On Thursday, Oct. 13, from 5-8 p.m., , located at 161 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, will be offering half-priced appetizers, $7 pink drink specials, raffles and more, with proceeds again benefitting the Hospital’s Cancer program.

The same will be true at on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5-8pm, where special offerings will include $1 oysters, $7 pink drinks, happy hour specials and raffles.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, from 11 am-5 pm, representatives from White Plains Hospital will be on-hand at mall’s “Paint the Mall Pink” health fair, of which the Hospital is a sponsor. In addition to information about breast cancer and giveaways, attendees will be able to set up mammography appointments and purchase the aforementioned T-shirt designed during the Hospital’s “Think Pink” contest.

Patients at the Hospital during October may see their world being a little pink-er, too. All clinicians will be donning pink gloves throughout the entire month to raise awareness about breast cancer. Furthermore, Hospital employees will be able to purchase chances for a contest in which they will be asked to guess the number of pink and white M&M’s in a jar. Proceeds from sales will go directly to Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center.
