White Plains Man Dies in Hospital After Accident

The 81-year-old was involved in an accident on Route 100 in Briarcliff Manor Thursday.

A White Plains man passed away several hours after a car accident in Briarcliff Manor, police reported.

According to Briarcliff Manor Police Lt. Donald Gorey, the department was notified about an accident involving three vehicles on Route 100 at 12:22 p.m. Thursday.

Police responded to the intersection of Route 100 at Chappaqua Road, where Gorey said two vehicles, headed in opposite directions, were both moving to turn left onto Chappaqua Road.

An 81-year-old White Plains man was driving one of those vehicles.

Gorey said his vehicle was struck by a third vehicle headed south on Route 100. The accident, he described, was "almost" a head-on collision.

The other drivers were uninjured, but the White Plains man was transported via ambulance to the hospital, Gorey said.

The department was notified approximately five hours later that the man had passed away. It is not yet known if the injuries from the accident were the cause of death, Gorey said.

On Friday, Gorey noted the Briarcliff Manor Police Department completed an accident investigation and said he does not expect any criminal charges will be filed.

Westchester County may also investigate the accident. Gorey said, therefore, he could not release the man's name at this time.
