Today Mayor Thomas M. Roach demonstrated how to loan an e-book from the White Plains Library’s collection of almost 3,000 e-books, using his own Nook in Galaxy Hall.

The library is encouraging cardholders to use the library’s numerous free online tools in order to make library services accessible to more people. White Plains Library cardholders can manage their library account online, and access not just e-books but other online tools such as live homework help, practice drills for standardized tests, foreign language classes and much more.

“We hope that offering online services will urge those residents who don’t currently have a library account to sign-up for a library card. Using the internet also gives more freedom as to when a resident can access services and from where,” said Sandra Miranda, Executive Director.

Roach walked through the step-by-step process of how to use a library account online to access and download an e-book to an e-reader. The library’s e-books can be downloaded for use on the Nook, iPad or Kindle.

“This is another example of how the city is embracing technology to make services more accessible to all residents in White Plains. Everything can be done right online from the comfort of your home or office. But we also welcome residents to visit the library as well,” said Roach.

The library is also now offering one-on-one training sessions to learn about e-readers and how to download e-books and e-audiobooks. Call 914-422-1480 or stop by the 1st Floor Reference Desk to schedule an appointment.

Also join the mayor and the staff on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 2:30 pm to 4 pm for Demo Day.

Demo Day will give patrons the opportunity to watch first-hand how to download a book on all e-readers. Bring your own device or use the library’s demo devices to practice.

The White Plains Library is open 7 days a week and its online services are available 24/7 at www.wppl.lib.ny.us.
