Karen Pasquale, the senior advisor to White Plains Mayor Tom Roach, confirmed that the mayor accepted Al Moroni's resignation on Tuesday.

Moroni started in 1981 as deputy commissioner of recreation and parks, and became director of the parking authority in 1994. In January 2010, he took on the dual role of Commissioner of Recreation and Parks and Commissioner of Parking (the parking authority was turned into the parking department in July 2004).

“The resignation will officially take effect in 30 days,” said Pasquale in an email. “

He will not be in the office during that time and Deputy Commissioner John Larson will be managing the Parking Department and Francine Croughan will be managing the Recreation & Parks Department until further notice."

Moroni said, "the resignation is questionable."

The former commissioner said accusations that he was charged with a DWI while driving a city-owned vehicle, were started by "rumormongers" and are "absolutely, positively untrue."

According to Moroni, he was run off the road by a tractor-trailer last week on his way home causing damage to the undercarriage of the car.

"A bunch of people from the city are making up lies about a DWI that are completely unfounded," said Moroni.

Pasquale's email did not offer any detail as to why Moroni resigned.
