White Plains Police to Honor Slain Detective
Local officers will take part in national charitable bike trek.

To honor a slain comrade—late White Plains detective Michael Perry, who died in the line of duty in 2011—the city's police force is taking part in a 306-mile bicycle tour.
The trek, dubbed the Police Unity Tour, is a national event with a focus on spreading knowledge.
"Police Unity Tour's primary purpose is to raise awareness for the law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty," said detective Bryan Hembury. White Plains will field eight riders and one support person.

The ride stretches from the World Trade Center site and ends at the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum in D.C., over 300 miles away.
Hembury said the museum is able to run exclusively on donations, and free of taxpayer dollars.

"The Police Unity Tour is by far the number one fundraiser for the memorial and to date has raise approximately $12 million," he said.
Later this month, White Plains cops will pitch in locally. A fete is slated for Thursday, March 28 at the Porterhouse Bar and Grill at 169 Mamaroneck Avenue. The event is $40 per person and features food, raffles and an open bar.
