White Plains to Shut Down Bars, Restaurants and Theaters

White Plains, currently in a state of emergency, will open a shelter at Post Road Elementary School and prohibit on-street parking.

While White Plains bars were packed with patrons last night, Mamaroneck Avenue won’t be accommodating its usual crowds Saturday night, as the City has asked its bars, restaurants and theatres to close at 9 p.m. in preparation of Hurricane Irene.

The City declared a state of emergency at 9 p.m. on Friday, announcing that city officials will be working around the clock with White Plains Hospital and local utilities during the storm.

To allow city vehicles and crews to move through White Plains without interference, on-street parking is prohibited in White Plains from midnight tonight until Monday at 7 a.m. The city will offer free parking, effective immediately, at the following garages: Chester-Maple, Hamilton-Main, Longview Avenue, and Lexington-Grove.
