Wi-Fi, Showers Sought During Con Ed Restoration
There are currently about 313 without power in White Plains.

With thousands of power outages in Westchester caused by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene, residents had to get creative when it came to fulfilling their daily routines, seeking out places to get on the Internet and take a shower.
Sunday's storm knocked out power to more than 2,000 White Plains homes earlier this week, as well as phone and Internet service. Con Edison spokesperson Sara Banda says there is currently 313 homes still without power, and that all homes should have power back by Thursday.
“We’re trying our best,” said Banda. “ We have crews out there helping us from various states, like Texas and Colorado, helping us to restore power to our customers. There are numerous falling trees, wires that are down, poles that are down—so it’s also a safety issue. We have to make sure we don’t rush these jobs, and all of the problems are taken care of.”

’s Manager of Client Services Amy Heavey said some of their members were at the center bright and early Monday morning to take showers since they had no hot water.
“We had a couple of members who came in looking a little beaten up,” joked Heavey. “I said ‘Of course you can use the shower, you’re a member.’ I think they just felt blessed that they didn’t get hit hard. A couple of days without power was nothing compared to what could have really happened.”
