Lottery Opens For New, Affordable Apartments In Williamsburg
An affordable housing lottery has launched for 56 brand-new apartments on Grand Street. Here's who is eligible and how to apply:

WILLIAMSBURG, NY — An affordable housing lottery has opened for a group of apartments in a new nine-story development built on the former site of Key Foods in Williamsburg.
The building, which stretches nearly a full block from Lorimer Street to about three-quarters of the way down Grand Street in Williamsburg, contains 185 units and is set to include a theater room and pet spa, according to developers.
The new development at 597 Grand Street has officially opened its lottery to households bringing in an annual income of $63,155 to $218,010.

Of the 56 available studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments available in the lottery, 37 of those units are considered somewhat affordable. These are for families earning up to 80 percent of the area median income (AMI), with income limits ranging from $63,155 to $134,160 for households of one to five people, according to the listing.

Three units are studios renting for $1,757 a month, 29 are one-bedroom apartments at $1,875, and five are two-bedroom units priced at $2,232.
The remaining apartments are for households earning 130 percent of AMI, with incomes ranging from $106,458 to $218,010 for one to five people. This includes 14 one-bedroom units at $3,317 a month, three studios at $3,105 a month and two two-bedroom units at $3,963 a month.

Twenty percent of the units will be prioritized for residents of Brooklyn Community Board 1, while approximately seven percent will be reserved for residents with hearing or mobility disabilities.
Designed by NY Building Associates, the building features electric car charging stations, parking, a shared laundry room, a rooftop terrace, a yoga studio, a children’s playroom, a fitness center and a business center, according to the listing.
All residences are equipped with dishwashers, air conditioning, hardwood floors and intercoms.


Households of one to five people are encouraged to apply. Tenants will be responsible for electricity, including stove and heat, while hot water is included with the rent.
