Rigoberto Diaz, a 72-year-old Sunset Park resident, was killed by an SUV while riding his bicycle just a block from his home around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police say.
An NYPD investigation found that Diaz had been riding westbound on 48th Street when he tried to make a “wide left turn” under the Gowanus Expressway overpass onto 3rd Avenue. At the same time, according to police, a black SUV was traveling northbound on 3rd.
Before Diaz could complete the turn, he was struck by the 1995 Chevy heading north, police say.
